(More customer reviews)Dr. Sweeny's book changed my life. I had a large inguinal hernia but was too afraid to undergo surgery because I didn't want anesthesia. I've seen TV shows where people are wide awake suring surgery but can't do or say anything. I was so scared that I delayed surgery several years during which my hernia grew larger and progressively limited my activities and my quality of life. Now that I've read Dr. Sweeny's book, I understand how anesthesia works and realize that I have a higher chance of being struck by lightning than being awake during surgery. He explained what to expect before and after surgery in plain english and what questions to direct to your anesthesiologist. I've recommended this book to all of my friends, even if they don't need surgery, just because it educated me so well. Dr. Sweeny, thank you for taking away my fear of surgery and giving me my life back!
